This massive monument is one of the most famous symbols of the early Soviet era.
The Worker and Kolkhoz Woman was designed by Vera Mukhina and placed on top of the Russian pavilion at the Paris World Fair in ‘37. The actual pavilion was designed by Boris Iofan (the guy who also created the notorious House on the Embankment). It was taken down some time after the collapse of the Union and has only been restored to its former glory recently, so I really enjoyed going all Rodchenko on it.
Gotta love the way Russians paint their houses — central Moscow looks so nice in the sunlight.
Today is a day of mourning over here at tea and ink, because I managed to ruin an entire roll of a E6 film, and this is the only surviving shot.
